The first week of the CSI de Wolden competition was a successful one for our stallions and sport horses. In the 1.45m Grand Prix, no fewer than two of our stallions finished in the top six. Mindset ES, ridden by Hessel Hoekstra, finished in an impressive third place after a clear-round jump-off. Night Life, ridden by Luke Hill, also remained clear in the jump-off and secured sixth place. The places behind them were also taken by horses with VDL bloodlines. Marc Houtzager guided the young Neville (by Comthago VDL) to seventh place, whilst Ilamine de Thurin, a descendant of Dakar VDL, finished eighth with Anja Moret.
There was also success in the 1.40m Championat at Veeningen. New Pleasure VDL, ridden by Hessel Hoekstra, finished in an impressive sixth place. Earlier in the week, the pair had also secured a fine third place in a 1.40m class. In addition, several offspring of VDL stallions performed excellently in the Championat. Jewel (Carrera VDL) won the class with Laurie Touw, Nevada W (by Dallas VDL) came second under Renate Beuving, I Am (by Etoulon VDL) finished fourth with Megan Laseur, and Onaico W (by Inaico VDL) came eighth with Jessie Wiefferink.
Boston VDL made his international debut under Sytze van Dellen and produced some very impressive rounds in the 1.20m class. You can watch Boston VDL’s performances on our YouTube channel.
Sambucci de Muze VDL also demonstrated his qualities. Riden by Luke Hill, the stallion remained clear twice in a 1.45m class. On Friday, this earned him a fine sixth place.
In the 1* Grand Prix, there were also fine results for the offspring of our stallions. Otra Vez (Dakar VDL x Up To Date), bred by C. Betlehem, finished third with Renate Beuving. Luzella (Cardento x Baltic), bred by Stal Falkena, took a creditable fourth place with Lennard de Boer.
Our stallion Landino VDL rode clear under Luke Hill in the final of the Bronze Tour (1.35m) and finished eleventh. In this final, two offspring of Comthago VDL also performed exceptionally well: Chardonnay Vs Z (Comthago VDL x Numero Uno) took third place with Dennis van den Brink, whilst Odanaminka (Comthago VDL x Freeman) finished ninth with Linde Bulthuis.
In the six-year-old class, there was further success for a Comthago offspring. Pellaminka (Comthago VDL x Zapatero), ridden by Linde Bulthuis, won the qualifying class and went on to finish second in the final. For breeder Sjouke de Groot, this was a special week, as his home-bred horses Odanaminka and Ogenaminka (Jenssen VDL), also ridden by Linde Bulthuis, put in excellent performances. Ogenaminka secured two fine fourth-place finishes in 1.30m classes.
